The brief
Lenka is a family and wedding photographer. She wanted a website that showcased her past work and boosted sales for her freelance work. The brief was for a clean and minimal design that had quality images without having too much of a negative impact on page load time. The site also needed to be multilingual able.
Objectives
The approach
To allow Lenka to present all her great photos in as higher quality as possible the site's infrastructure needed to be minimal and fast loading. To achieve this I built the WordPress theme from scratch and kept the code as lightweight as possible.
The masonry image gallery is a big part of the site so we explored a few options for this before deciding on using this plugin.
Lenka wanted all the content to be easy for her to edit after handover. For this, I used Advanced Custom Fields to set out in a very readable way all the content and images of the site. This approach was also necessary for enabling Lenka to write the translated version of the site.
On the homepage, we added a parallax effect which makes for a bit of interest and a nice transition into the main content of the page.
The homepage features some of Lenka's best work and also directs people further into exploring the site. A simple testimonial section was also added to build trust with potential clients.
The results
The site has recently landed and everyone who has seen it has given us incredibly positive feedback. After just one handover meeting Lenka has been able to navigate the backend of the site and make changes to the text and images.
The site scores very nicely on page speed metrics which is something a lot of photography and portfolio sites fail at – this gives the website a real edge for its SEO and getting the business growing.
